From sea to shining sea

Driving through middle America

The parts between big cities

And surrounding suburbs

Parts with general stores

Or Walmarts

Where nature seems pristine

But we know better

Wide open land

I don't know where a

Native community was placed

Erased from our collective consciousness

Folks live on, here

Representing their ancestors

Woods deep and

springy lime green

Twigs snapping under foot

Countless bird songs

Smells of decay and rot

Mingling with tender shoots

Middle America
